Experience river travel as it used to be as you listen to commentary, take in the beautiful scenery, meet our homing pigeons. This is a destination trip that includes a 1.5 hour stop over at Ūpokongaro where you can visit Behind the Door on Four Cafe, see if you can spot some Nankeen Night Herons, check out Papaiti Gin and the wonderful gins to taste and for sale, or visit St Mary’s Church, an historic place built in 1877 with its unusual 3 sided spire.

About
Your cruise leaves the Riverboat Centre Wharf and heads up river taking in the scenery and views of Whanganui which can only be experienced from the Whanganui River which is also known as Te Awa Tupua.
Our commentary shares riverboat history and points of interest along the way. You can also visit the engine room, chat to the engineers and check out the boiler that powers our paddle steamer.
