About:

Walk across lava flows as recent as 1954 and learn of geological history from as far back as the Great Lake Taupo eruption in AD 186 and the creation of Mt Ngauruhoe 7500 years ago.

Experience views of Mt Taranaki, Lake Taupo, the Rangipo Desert and the Kaimanawa Ranges

The distance travelled is 19.4km and the highest point is 1886m. You’ll climb almost 900 vertical metres from the start point at Mangatepopo and descend just over 1100 metres to our pick-up point at Ketetahi.

Clothing and Equipment Hire
All inclusive (Clothing, Hiking Boots, Backpack, Hiking Poles all available for your personal use If you do not have your own).

What to bring:

• Gloves, Beanie
• Toilet paper, and hand sanitizer
• Water 2 ltrs Per person
• Sturdy footwear Thick or 2 pairs of socks. (Hiking Boots are available to borrow on request)
• Windproof jacket and thermal layers.
• Thermal tops & longs
• Fleece Jacket / longs
• Waterproof pants & Jacket
• Sturdy day pack
• Walking poles and sleeping bags and liners.
• A sturdy backpack
