Kiwi Dundee Adventure Tours has been providing tours and guiding services across the Coromandel Peninsula since 1975. Our tours will take you to all of the well-known Coromandel sights, as well as off the beaten track to discover hidden gems that only locals know about. Experienced and enthusiastic local guides will give you an insight into the stories that make this region special; the Kauri forests, gold mining history, volcanic geology, birdlife and beautiful coastal walks and beaches.

All tours include taxes, fees, and GST, the services of a fully licensed New Zealand local guide / driver, a chauffeured private van (fully air conditioned), lunches at local cafés (specify any dietary requirements), water, and New Zealand candy!

No two tours are ever quite the same. We will accommodate customers’ particular interests and requests as the tour progresses.

Itinerary

DAY 1: EXCAPE THE CITY TO PARADISE!

Auckland – The Seabird coast – giant kauri – gold town – volcanic rainforest-covered mountains.

You will be picked up from Auckland, and we will escape the city to the spectacular Coromandel Peninsula in the air-conditioned luxury of Kiwi Dundee Adventure’s mini-coach with your friendly kiwi guide. Tour through picturesque farmland stopping for photos and short walks during the day. Travel along the beautiful Seabird Coast, home to thousands of migratory and shorebirds. Enjoy a visit to the fascinating old gold mine town of Thames with its buildings and churches dating from the 1800s. After a delightful lunch, travel over steep volcanic mountains clad in the dense rainforest to visit a giant Kauri standing majestically amongst the world’s largest ferns and semi-tropical rainforest. A short journey to a quiet coastal town takes you to your accommodation for the next two nights.

DAY 2: COROMANDEL PENINSULA NATURE AND COAST TOUR

Mountains – rainforest – giant trees – glowworms and stunning coastal scenery.

Today is a delightful sample of this region’s natural heritage and scenic beauty! Enjoy an easy walk through nature on the forgotten paths of an old gold town to visit an old historic gold cave, now home to sparkling glow worms. Enjoy the fascinating history of

this area and learn about the flora and fauna within this magnificent forest of the region. Be prepared for fun and entertainment! Visit stunning coastal scenery with its white sand beaches, magnificent cliffs, old Maori Pa (village) sites and offshore islands. The day includes a visit to world famous Hot Water Beach. See your guide’s “treasures” from nature, including gold specimens, crystals, petrified wood, Kauri gum and other minerals found on the peninsula. Included is lunch at one of our favourite cafes where all dietry requirements are catered for.

DAY 3: SOUTHERN COROMANDEL, WAIKATO, AND ROTORUA

Historic and natural features and more stunning scenery.

Today we farewell the Coromandel Peninsula, but not before stopping at the site of two old gold mines. Admire the amazing engineering and tenacity of the old miners from over 100 years ago. We then depart across some of the richest dairy farming land in the world before visiting one of the largest waterfalls in the North Island. We’ll then venture through more rainforest before arriving at Rotorua, where we’ll bid you a sad farewell.

Notes:

• We also can include a stop at Hobbiton on Day Three on request (+$84 per person)
• It is also possible to do this trip in reverse (Rotorua to Auckland), or return to Auckland on Day Three.
• A minimum of two persons is required for this non-private tour. The maximum number per tour is six people.
