Kia ora! We are the heart and hands behind Patuwairua & Co, a creative partnership spanning generations. Based in the beautiful region of Taranaki, our story is woven together by two people: myself (Lacey) and my beloved Nan (Lizzy).
Named in honor of my 81-year-old Nan, our business is a tribute to her legacy and the deep roots our whānau has in Waitara.
My personal journey to this art form has been a winding one. I was born in Thames and raised in Tauranga, but it was my move to Taranaki and a pivotal step into trades that truly paved the way for this business.
After completing my Level 3 in Carpentry, I gained the confidence and technical skills I needed to bring our vision to life. Before that course, I didn’t know the first thing about power tools! That experience was the foundation I needed to bridge the gap between traditional art and modern construction, and I likely wouldn’t have started this journey without it.
We specialize in hand-crafting Tukutuku panels—the intricate, traditional latticework found gracing the walls of the wharenui.
For us, this isn’t just art; it’s a connection to our ancestors. I had the privilege of learning this delicate craft directly from my Nan, ensuring that the techniques and stories passed down through our lineage continue to thrive.
Every stitch we place carries a purpose. While we love creating traditional designs, our true passion lies in custom pieces. We believe that every person has a unique journey, and we love creating bespoke panels that tell a story of someone’s life, values, and heritage.
Whether it is for your home or a special gift, we pour our wairua into every panel, ensuring that the tradition of Tukutuku lives on in a way that is personal and deeply meaningful.
Arohanui,
Lacey & Lizzy ✨
