The Hurunui river has consistently been classified as one the best trout habitats in the country with high numbers of good quality fish.
Flowing out of Lake Sumner the Hurunui is the perfect habitat for trout with fast flowing water, deep pools and long calm stretches that are not easy to access, giving these fish a great habitat!
We like to make an early start for this trip but can customised to suit you and your schedule.

This trip starts with a bit of fish spotting on the way up river followed by raft fishing our way 8kms downstream.
Fishing from a raft gives you a lot more scope on the river, allowing you to fish from both sides and giving you access to some of the hard to reach places.

Itinerary
7:00 am Depart Christchurch
Departing Christchurch at 7am we head for the river

9:00 am Arrive at river
Arriving at the river we gear up and head for a short walk for a bit of tributary fishing for an hour or so.

10:00am Get ready to head downstream
We board the raft and head downstream fishing a few pools on the way. The raft gives us the ability to target areas that normally are hard to reach.
We will target well known pools and runs as we head down and any areas that you may have spotted that may hold fish.

1:00 pm Lunch
Our driver will meet us riverside with lunch and tea and coffee. We stop for a quick bite to eat before continuing downstream.

3:00pm Trip ends
Our trip comes to an end at the Seaward river. We break the gear down get changed and depart the river for Christchurch.

5:00 pm Arrive back in Christchurch
