This trip is a unique and exciting option to offer you with a new fishery opening up here in Kaikoura!

The chance to catch one of the huge and powerful Southern Bluefin Tuna, is every fisherman or fisherwoman’s dream. As the SBT population is increasing the fish stocks in the waters around NZ are getting healthier each year.

We will take you out and give you the chance to do battle against a SBT and possibly catch the fish of a lifetime. You can either catch and release or you can choose to take your fish home to enjoy the delicacy of Bluefin tuna. Catching a Bluefin Tuna takes tremendous effort and time since this is the case, we limit our passenger number to 4 to ensure things run smoothly.

All fishing Gear will be supplied and Hot coffee, Tea and lunch will be provided. Drinking water will be supplied on board.

At Kaikoura Fishing Adventures We are a local business run by a fourth generation Kaikoura fishing family who’s life revolves around the ocean. We fish in a sustainable way that will let future generations get the same enjoyment and experiences that we do.

Our equipment is quality, we use good quality rods and reels for our fishing and take extra care to ensure our gear is in top condition.
We also have a toilet on board, a furuno depth sounder, chart plotter and we are equipped with a furuno radar. A fish hold will be stocked with ice to ensure the quality of your fish.

Our aim is to give you a safe and enjoyable time on the water with the opportunity to take home some delicious kai moana whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery that Kaikoura has to offer.

What to bring

When we head out on the water the conditions can change fast. We care about your comfort and want you to enjoy your day as much as possible, so below is a detailed list of items we highly recommend you bring:

• Sunhat
• Sunscreen
• Sunglasses (HOT TIP – Polarized lenses help you see the fish better)
• Waterproof windproof Jacket
• We recommend non-skid rubber soled sneakers or gumboots
• Warm layers as well as something to wear when the sun comes out.
• Sea sickness medication, located at the local Pharmacy. (We will do our best to find you the most comfortable conditions on the day)
• A bag to store your valuables in (we will have a dry bag if needed)
