Explore through the grand Larnach Castle. Let our guide tell you the scandalous story of original owner William Larnach. Explore the building with its fabulous craftsmanship art and antiques. Walk the wonderfully curate gardens and take tea in the Ballroom Café.

Join the Wildlife Cruise, with it’s uninterrupted views of the world’s only mainland nesting place of royal albatross. Watch as these huge birds glide in from the ocean and soar high above their hillside nest sites.

Your skipper will guide the boat close to the base of dramatic volcanic cliffs, with a historic lighthouse perched high above. Beneath the cliffs you’ll see fur seals play on rocky outcrops and swim in tidal pools.

A short cruise out at sea and you’ll spot rarely seen ocean birds including other albatross species, cormorants and petrels. We sometimes spot sea lions, blue penguins, dolphins and other marine mammals.

Include the guided visit to a yellow-eyed penguin reserve. Walk through regenerating native bush to different viewing points. Discover why these special birds are so endangered and see conservation work in action. This is a fantastic opportunity to potentially see a penguin in its natural habitat.

The tour ends with a relaxing bus ride back to Dunedin, following the Otago Harbour.

A medium level of fitness is required for this tour. You may walk up to 1.5km and climb several flights of stairs.

What to bring:

Dress warm for the days forecast and bring a waterproof layer. The weather can be unpredictable at times and we highly recommend being ready for all conditions. Extra jackets are available if needed. We suggest wearing sturdy and comfortable footwear. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink on tour!
