Find My Local is a social-enterprise digital platform that helps people discover authentic Kiwi experiences, supports Kiwis to make a small business from home, and connect with creators who celebrate the culture, stories and landscapes of Aotearoa New Zealand.

We showcase activities, tours, hidden gems, and local businesses — all brought to life through real content created by real people.

Our goal is simple: make it as easy as possible to experience Aotearoa through the eyes of locals.  

Find My Local was originally created during Level 4 lockdown as a response to the community and business challenges brought on by COVID-19.

The idea was born at Hack The Crisis NZ, a nationwide online hackathon (17–19 April 2020). A team of volunteers, designers, developers, creatives, and community leaders came together to build a platform that would help local businesses stay visible and connected during a time of isolation.

The platform would not exist without the expert and generous contribution of its original founders, and has now been rebranded and expanded in a new direction with one of the original founders continuing the kaupapa. 

After working on a wide range of digital platforms across Māori, Pasifika, Aboriginal Canadian, regional New Zealand businesses, food tourism, music, and fashion, one problem kept appearing again and again:

It was too hard for local businesses and creators to connect.

Find My Local has been rebuilt to solve that problem with a simple, modern solution:

With the global creator economy surpassing $100 billion dollars, and New Zealand creators in high demand, 2025 is the perfect time to relaunch Find My Local and help Kiwi talent shine.

If you know a creator, storyteller, or business that deserves to be showcased on Find My Local, you can nominate them using our online form:

📍 How to See Listings Near Your Location

When you first visit Find My Local, your browser asks whether you want to share your location.
If you selected “Allow,” the website will automatically show you listings closest to where you are.

If you selected “Block” or “Don’t Allow,” your browser will hide your location — which means you won’t see nearby listings until it’s turned back on.

You can easily re-enable it by following the instructions below for your device or browser.

If your device has blocked location access, you’ll need to turn it back on in your browser settings.
Just tap the padlock icon in your browser’s address bar and change “Location” to Allow, then refresh the page. 

📍 Browser-Specific Instructions (If the quick method doesn’t work)

If changing Location to Allow from the padlock icon doesn’t work, follow the steps below for your device or browser.

🌐 Chrome (Desktop & Mobile)

Quick method:

1. Tap/click the padlock icon next to the website URL

2. Find Location

3. Change Block → Allow

4. Refresh the page

If the option doesn’t appear:

1. Open Settings

2. Go to Privacy & Security → Site Settings → Location

3. Find findmylocal.nz

4. Change Block → Allow

5. Refresh the page

🍎 Safari (iPhone / iPad)

1. Open Settings

2. Scroll to Safari

3. Tap Location

4. Under Settings for Websites, find findmylocal.nz

5. Change to Allow or Ask

6. Reopen Safari and refresh the page

🍏 Safari (Mac)

1. Open Safari → Settings (or Preferences on older versions)

2. Go to Websites

3. Select Location from the left-hand menu

4. Find findmylocal.nz in the list

5. Change Deny → Allow

6. Reload the page

🦊 Firefox (Desktop & Mobile)

1. Click the lock icon beside the website URL

2. Select Permissions

3. Change Location to Allow

4. Reload the page
